Marin Ellis

I am a certified doula, registered nurse, and most importantly a servant of Jesus Christ.

I am from Austin, Texas and went to school in Wichita Falls at Midwestern State University. I received my bachelor's in science of nursing and started working at St. Louis Children’s Hospital in August of 2023. I’ve always loved working with kids and was given the opportunity to work with kids as young as newborn babies, and as old as teenagers. I’ve loved every moment of nursing but felt God leading me in a new direction.

Though my experience is in pediatrics, my passion has remained in the natural birthing process. I investigated being a nurse in a labor and delivery unit, but God put it on my heart to do something more intentional and intimate with mothers, so I became a doula. God designed a woman’s body to be able to give birth and should not be treated as a medical problem. I believe interventions can be amazing tools, but only as needed, not the first line of action.

As your doula, I want to support you in making decisions that are in your family’s best interest. I can give you a full understanding of your options, but I will never give you medical advice or impose my own judgements. I truly believe ‘Mother’ is the strongest and most powerful title a person can hold, and I cannot wait to support you as your doula.

Why ‘Blessed Birth’?

Blessed

[ /ˈblɛsɪd/ ] bless-ed * adjective

refers to someone or something that is favored, protected, or sanctified by God, fortunate, or bringing great happiness and contentment.

The word blessed (one syllable) is a verb, describing someone or something that has been given a blessing. However, the word bless-ed (two syllables) is an adjective, describing something as holy or fortunate. This word comes from the Greek word ‘makarios’ and is used throughout the Bible to identify a state of being under the favor of God. The joy that ‘makarios’ describes is only from a relationship with God and not through circumstances.

This word has had so much power and meaning in my life. Once I understood only Jesus can bring joy and peace, I was able to enjoy my life and the Lord no matter the circumstance. In Matthew 5, the ‘blessed’ people are the ones who leave the desires of the world behind and pursue God. Therefore, their reward is from God. A reward that is eternally fulfilling rather than temporary. That is why I became a doula because giving birth is a ‘blessed’ event. The difficulty of giving birth requires more strength than one seems capable, but God works through it to create life and a mother. I desire to help mothers find this state of ‘makarios’ through giving birth. No matter the circumstance or outcome, they would have the joy and peace that only Jesus can bring.

Matthew 5:3-12

Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
    for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
    for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
